A horse town since before Hollywood had sound.
Chatsworth has been home to humans and horses for over a century. The Squaw Man, considered Hollywood's first feature film, was a Western shot here in 1914, and Stoney Point has been a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument since 1974.
Today, Stoney Point Ranch is one of the last remaining affordable, community-based horse facilities in Chatsworth. The City has twice invited operators to take it on, and both invitations closed without a proposal. Not for lack of love for the place, but because a facility this size needs a partnership: no lone tenant can carry decades of deferred maintenance alone.
The good news: the community, the Neighborhood Council, and a ready local operating team all want the same thing. What remains is to bring them together.

The Stables at Stoney Point is a complete operating vision led by a 20-year Chatsworth ranch manager and a team drawn from the local horse community. It proposes a true partnership: two dollars of committed private capital for every one asked of the City, a rebuilt facility, a resident caretaker providing 24-hour animal care and security, and community programming delivered as public benefit.

In April 2026, the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council wrote to the Department of Recreation and Parks asking the City to preserve Stoney Point as a community equestrian resource: horse camps for children and adults, youth education, equine-assisted programs, conservation, and affordability.
This proposal is that letter with an operator attached. A petition signature tells the City that the community stands behind its own vision, and welcomes a partnership built to deliver it.

Ask the City to give this proposal a full and fair hearing.
To the Department of Recreation and Parks, the Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners, and the Council District 12 office: we, residents of Chatsworth and supporters of the Los Angeles equestrian community, respectfully ask the City to:
- Restore and preserve Stoney Point Ranch as a working, affordable, community-based equestrian center, the last of its kind in Council District 12.
- Repair the solicitation so a community-scale operator can succeed: site cleanup, resolution of existing fixture claims, and terms scaled to a five-acre neighborhood facility, as the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council has requested.
- Give full and fair consideration, including a public presentation before the community, to community-backed proposals such as The Stables at Stoney Point.
